About this route

The Pustertal is a corridor of light. You start in Innichen where the Sesto Dolomites still hold the morning cold, and for forty-odd kilometres the path simply lets you go — a lazy descent beside the Rienz, past hay meadows that smell of clover by ten in the morning. This is not a ride you attack. It is a ride you graze. Every village along the way keeps a smokehouse, and the scent of juniper and beech smoke drifts over the path long before you see the building. By Bruneck you will have eaten twice, drunk a Vernatsch you did not plan on, and understood why South Tyroleans measure distance in Marende breaks rather than kilometres.
